FAQ

Questions people ask first.

Short answers. The docs have the long ones.

What is Viaalink Relay?

One Relay, an address for every device you own: people and phones reach what you share, from anywhere. You run it once on your own server, NAS or PC, and your devices each get a real web address on your own domain, with HTTPS.

What is the difference between Free and the paid plans?

Free costs €0 and covers 3 connected devices (up to 10 connections), with calls through firewalls included; it is not for commercial use and has no redundancy. Personal (€99) covers commercial use by one freelancer; Team (€490) and Business (€1.490) include commercial use. Prices are per year including VAT. Redundancy starts at Business.

What happens after 14 days without a license?

A new Relay runs 14 days without a license. After that it lets no new devices connect until it is activated. Free is one e-mail sign-in away: sign in on viaalink.com, get an activation code and enter it in your Relay.

Is a license tied to one machine?

Yes. One license covers one installation, bound to the machine it is activated on with an activation code from your account. For a server without internet there is an offline license file. You can move a license from your account, up to 3 times per 30 days.

Does Viaalink Notetaker work without internet?

Notetaker turns speech into text on your phone itself. It needs internet to download its speech model and to share; your notes are stored on your phone.

On how many devices can I use one Notetaker license?

On up to 3 devices at once. Removing a device in your account frees its place at once, and Notetaker on that device keeps working offline until the end of the paid period.

Can I get a refund?

Cancelling the renewal refunds nothing: the license stays valid until its end date and is then not renewed. When a Relay payment is refunded, the license is revoked and its installation deactivated. A refunded Notetaker license keeps working on your devices until the paid period ends.

Where does my data live?

On hardware you own. The Relay runs on your own server, NAS or PC, so you don't need a third-party cloud account to put something on the internet. Notetaker stores your notes on your phone.

Which platforms are supported?

The Relay runs on a Linux server or VPS (Ubuntu, Debian or Rocky Linux; amd64, arm64 or armv6 for Raspberry Pi), with Docker on any amd64 or arm64 machine (including Synology and QNAP), as an app on an x86-64 ASUSTOR NAS, and on Windows (x64, Arm) and Mac (Intel, Apple silicon). Notetaker runs on Android, macOS and Linux; Windows and iOS are coming.

How do I sign in?

Enter your e-mail on viaalink.com. We send you a link and a 6-digit code; use whichever is easier. The first time, the same step creates your account. No password, ever.

What is the Viaalink CLI?

The command you type is via. via expose 3000 gives a port on your machine a public HTTPS address through your Viaalink Relay. Install it with curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/viaalink/cli/main/install.sh | bash, or on Windows with irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/viaalink/cli/main/install.ps1 | iex.

Do non-profits pay?

ANBI non-profits under €250k revenue get the Team plan free. Other non-profits get 50% off.
